Using colorful and imprinted paper napkins is an inexpensive way to create cool decoupage projects. Paper napkins come in so many colors and designs that it’s almost impossible not to find a pack with your theme built right in!
General rule of thumb, when doing decoupage with paper napkins, is to apply the Mod Podge to the surface first and gently lay the napkin (or pieces of the napkin) directly on top of the adhesive. Gently smooth out the wrinkles and let it set up a bit. Continue to add additional coats of Mod Podge to the top of the napkin, as needed.
Just remember, some napkins are very flimsy and can rip easily. Be careful to let it set up for a few minutes, before adding Mod Podge to the top of the napkin. It will keep ripping down to a minimum. Over the last few years, most of the really cool printed paper napkins that I’ve purchased are really very sturdy, so you don’t have to be that careful.
Good news! It’s paper! You have to buy a whole package! You can easily add another layer over the top of any mistakes and no one will be the wiser!
Next time you’re thinking of refinishing that dresser, use a cool decoupage technique instead!
