When you don't have time...we do!

As a creative company, we didn’t give much thought to the marketing education we would receive, when we decided to open 225 Water Street Creative Arts in the front of our building. Not only has it helped us to reevaluate our own marketing strategies, it’s really helped us to advise our corporate clients, so that they can continue on and prosper in a sea of confusion. The keyword at this turn in the road is TRUST!

If you can find a creative business partner that you can collaborate with that offers a simple marketing strategy that you can afford, you can expect to start seeing results in three months. The KISS theory is alive and well in the new world of marketing. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise…it’s all about rich content, not spreading yourself to thin and consistency.

Being in business without advertising is like winking at a girl in the dark...you know what you're doing but no one else does.

So grateful that I listened…for once.

Being a small business owner, marketer and artist can be a challenging thing! Funny thing…there is a commonality with all of the many hats that I wear….the need to be found.

With so many places to go and people to see, it’s difficult not to spread yourself to thin, on the information highway!

I’ve found that staying consistent online, in a few major areas, really, really, really makes a difference!

Of course, Facebook and Twitter are both essential applications to have as a part of your daily, or weekly online marketing routines…but here are a couple of other places that we are really having grand success  and FUN with.

You might want to consider joining both of these exciting online marketing practices. Especially, if you have a small business or want to sell your art.  As a disclaimer…it takes a little time to be found but if you build it, they will come!

Simple Web Designs

The 225 Water Street Creative Arts website has been a work in progress, for almost 2 years.

What was I thinking when I decided to dump the original design and redesign the entire website?

A survey was created that asked my clients, and lovely followers, about their opinions of 225 Water Street Creative Arts website. What an eye-opener. How arrogant I have been to think that everyone surfs the web like I do. They don’t!

So, I decided to stop the insanity and get back to the basics of functional and simple web design. It’s so much easier to create, design, optimize and update. It feels like I Feng Shui-ed my house.

If you’re working on a website redesign or have contemplated creating a new website…think simple!  One of the most successful websites on the planet is Google…white background, search box and a few links. What more do you need?

Think really hard about your web habits.

Do you read all of the text? I don’t, unless I’m specifically looking for something.

Do you click on images? I do and it bother’s me if they don’t link to anything.

We never know what another person is thinking! Best advice…dumb down and go for simple. Write what you know, become an constant creator that leads you to become an expert at something. People trust that…quit worrying about selling them something. If they trust you, they will buy from you. I work that way, don’t you?

Use clean backgrounds, with well written content and lots of images. NO FEAR, this isn’t rocket science! (Keywords, meta tags, AdSense, AdWords and search engine optimization are necessary evils beyond the basics of web design but that’s another day.) It’s not as hard or expensive as you may think.  Start by creating an outline of what you think you want. Then find someone that you can trust to help you create your vision.

A few of my newest web designs are as simple as I could possibly create them. Check them out, if you’re curious to see my rendition of simple. Feedback is always welcomed! (Some of you may be wondering…does this girl sleep?) Yes. I love sleeping…I’ve been told that I snore. I still don’t believe that.

Just a note…winter appears to be back in Minnesota. Global warming? I don’t think so.
