My Life in Dog Years

The Mama Sadie Girl
Sadie Girl – The Mama

There was Pedee the toe biting Chihuahua, Taffy and Sarge … the Boxers that ate my guinea pigs, Lady, a beautiful and very sweet Doberman who was stolen during a tornado, Champagne, Monique and Pepper made a debut during my mom wants to breed Poodles stage, Gracie the Mutt, Crazy Peaches, Eli the Bun, Sweet Mama Sadie and Oscar le Rue were all Humane Society Alums.

Can’t believe that I remembered them all, considering that in dog year’s I’d be dead.

Besides …

The day’s and every night with my little brother’s from different mother’s … Jake & Charlie Bar.

What's good for the goose.
What’s good for the goose.

The greatest love is a mother’s; then a dog’s; then a sweetheart’s.  ~Polish Proverb

Just Jake

I talk to him when I’m lonesome like; and I’m sure he understands.  When he looks at me so attentively, and gently licks my hands; then he rubs his nose on my tailored clothes, but I never say naught thereat.  For the good Lord knows I can buy more clothes, but never a friend like that.  ~W. My dog is not a vegetarian.

Dog Bone Filling
Word of caution ... was told that freezing can make bones brittle. So keep an eye.

But I am.

What’s a girl to do? (To my vegan friends … this really isn’t a question)

Like every other four legged creature that has graced my path, Jake eats meat.

Sure, it grosses me out to buy marrow bones from our local grocer, but I do it.  Disgusting insides and all.

There are at least 25 of these little donuts hidden away in our building and yesterday I needed to figure out a way to reuse these little gems.

While searching the internet, I found a dog forum with a couple of really good dog bone filling ideas. Not being able to find a true recipe, I created my own.

#1 Dog Bone Veggie Filling

  • Mash a ripe banana until smooth
  • Add plain yogurt (or peanut butter) to reach a smooth by semi-thick consistency
  • Fill marrow bone holes
  • Freeze until center is firm

#2 Dog Bone Meat Filling

  • Boil a boneless chicken breast
  • Run it through a food processor
  • Mix it with a veggie soup
  • Blend. Fill. Freeze

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Have a great weekend!
