35 Pieces and Ball Chain

It only took 35 pieces – of this and that – to create one of my favorite mosaic tile light switch covers.  I used a hard plastic double light switch cover, an antique rhinestone brooch, purple iridescent tile, purple beads, black and white Millefori, a clear glass gem, silver tile and silver ball chain. light switch cover

Glued the brooch and purple iridescent tile border first, then glued the rest and let it dry before gluing the ball chain around the edges.

After the glue dried, I used a charcoal grout to make it  pop! Chaz loves it!  Me too but …

Bubbes Brooch – SOLD

I’ve come to terms with the fact that this piece and many others – from my private stash – have to be sold since all of my light switches, walls and floors are already covered. Less is more unless you need a groovy new light switch cover.

Glass on Glass Vintage Window Project #2

The winner is … 😉 an oldie but a goodie 5 years later. onward!

Tile Gypsy's avatartilegypsy.com

I found this 10-panel vintage window in Orange, California. It survived the drive back to the Midwest – on top of the truck – and measures 5′ x 2′ feet. The window has a sturdy frame and the glass is in great shape plus … it has really cool hinges that I’ll leave as is. Considering how long this took to create I may have to keep this piece and find a place for it in the cabin.  It’s a favorite!

This window was probably hung the wide way over an old store front somewhere.

Cleaned the entire window with vinegar & water and let it dry. Started to cut the glass pieces and create the design. Made the decision to not glue it down during the design.

You don't find inspiration. It finds you.

Next time … I’m going to trust myself and glue the glass as I’m laying out the design.

Perfect first pass and not a single piece glued. Perfect first pass and not a single piece glued.

Gluing Things Together

It takes up less room.

Then I gathered a stunning vintage Aristochrome China Florida Travel Plate and 3 Random Glass Objects and made a 2 tier Centerpiece, or Cake Stand, dubbed “Retire to Florida.”

The antique ladies across the street might cringe that I glued a very rare Aristochrome china Florida Travel Plate to a very heavy & fancy crystal fruit cup or … maybe it’s a crystal goblet … not sure … then I added a lovely little crystal candy dish that rests on a tiny glass bud vase.

So much more to come …
