Being Here Now

Years of practice and I can still only do what I’m doing while I’m doing it.

Writing this post thinking about walking bootless dogs, getting the towels out of the dryer and mourning the loss of bagels … must be the gluten … seriously they could have come up with a better word.

Could have listened to Ram Dass, in eighth grade, when he wrote … “Now is now. Are you going to be here or not?”

Being in a moment is an interesting place and from what I can tell, while I’m in and out of consciousness, it’s very relaxing, it doesn’t cost anything to get in, it’s really quiet and the doors never close.

Venting is for Dryers.

peace

Not venting as much and It feels really good.

Then there is this unfamiliar peacefulness that goes along with the “what will be, will be” mentality … who wouldn’t want that?

It’s a daily practice .. just saying.

Signs Along the Way

It’s taken me years to realize that I can’t fight the signs that keep showing up.

Kind of like being pelted by little pebbles and if that doesn’t work … the brick in the face usually gets my attention.

I can choose to stop, go, yield, take a detour, turn back, road closed or take the next exit.

It’s a choice.

Corny to some … very real to others.

“The ebb and flow of will is like the movements of the tides… if we cease our vain struggles and lamentations long enough to look away from the personal self…we realize life is going well with us after all.”  – Charles B. Newcomb

‘Cause it’s oh, so peaceful here

In the morning sun when no one will be drinking any more wine
I’ll wake the sun up by givin’ him a fresh air full of the wind cup
And I won’t be found in the shadows hiding sorrow
And I can wait for fate to bring around to me any part of my tomorrow, tomorrow
‘Cause it’s oh, so peaceful here
There’s no one bending over my shoulder
Nobody breathing in my ear
Oh, so peaceful here
In the evening shadows are callin’ me and the dew settles in my mind
And I think of friends in the yesterday when my plans were giggled in rhyme
I had a song while on the run and it’s love brought a tear to my eye
And maybe some day you’ll up and say “We had a pretty nice time”, oh, oh, oh, my
‘Cause it’s oh, so peaceful here
There’s no one bending over my shoulder
Nobody breathing in my ear
Oh, so peaceful here –

News can drive a person crazy!

If you listen to bad news all the time your face is going to stay that way.

Go glue something. You’ll feel better.

Arm in Arm

hit the wall
Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at it destination full of hope. - Maya Angelou

When life gets to heavy and out of control, I try to find things that remind me of why we’re really here.

This is one of those things…

ARM IN ARM

A few years ago, at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash.
At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All, that is, except one little boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times, and began to cry.
The other eight heard the boy cry. They slowed down and looked back. Then they all turned around and went back. Every one of them.
One girl with Down’s Syndrome bent down and kissed him and said, ‘This will make it better.’
Then all nine linked arms and walked together to the finish line. And some call these people ‘retarded’…?
Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. Why?
Because deep down we know this one thing: What matters in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changing our course.  ~Author Unknown
